Strokes along a direction field

The effect traces strokes along a direction field, so the lines run the way the picture's own structure does rather than across it.

Density or size from the picture

Adapt sets what drives the strokes, and Adapt Mode sets whether it changes their density or their size. It opens on Off, so the strokes stay even until you choose Tone, Depth or Detail. Follow sets the picture's tone or depth as the slope the strokes run across, and Invert turns them to run along it. Interpolation sets whether the colour ramp blends in RGB or OKLCH.
