Along the edges, not across them

The effect works out which way the edges run at every pixel, then averages a stretch of noise, or of the picture, walked along that direction both ways. Detail smears along the lines of the picture and stays sharp across them, the way a brush stroke follows a form. Length sets how far each pixel walks, from a fine texture to a long smear.

Four looks from one engine

Flow Grain shows the noise alone, a fingerprint of the picture's structure. Grain Tint lets that grain modulate the picture. Brush smears the picture itself along its edges. Relief lights the grain as if it were a height.
