Reflection, not lighting

A procedural studio is reflected off the surface, as it would be off a metal object. The reflection is what makes the form read as three-dimensional, more than any light pointed at it.

Six materials

Chrome is the hard, mirror-bright finish of a car bumper. Iridescent is the shifting, oily sheen of a beetle shell. Liquid Metal is the flowing, mercury-like skin of a film effect.

Obsidian, Thin Film and Studio Chrome use the photo's depth as the shape and coat only the subject, so the background stays the photo. Obsidian is near-black glass, with colour only where the form turns away from you. Thin Film is the rainbow sheen of a soap bubble, following the depth across the subject. Studio Chrome reflects a product studio, mirror on smooth surfaces and satin on fur, feathers and foliage.
