Blocks that read as pixels

Each block takes the average colour of the image under it, so a face becomes a mosaic of flat cells. The block size sets how coarse it is.

Block shape

Square gives the classic grid. Wide and Tall stretch the blocks, which suits pixel art on a screen whose pixels are not square.

Every option, from the app

Generated from the registry the app publishes, so this list is whatever the current build actually ships — not a copy of it.

  • PosterizeFlatten an image into bands of colour, the way a screenprint or a poster does.
  • HalftoneA real halftone screen — an angled grid of cells whose ink coverage tracks tone, in dot, line, cross or square, with a separate four-colour process screen for CMYK.
  • ASCIIImage to text art: per-cell luminance mapped through nineteen character ramps via a font atlas, with mono, source-colour, duotone and ANSI-16 colour — or laid out as a page of code instead of a grid.
